  • Debate on Land Acquisition Amendment Bill gets underway in LS

    The Lok Sabha has taken up the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill for discussion on Monday, Parliamentt round new1which is going on currently.

    Eight hours have been allocated for discussion on the bill.

    The Bill seeks to replace the ordinance promulgated by the government in December last year.

    The Ordinance had brought several changes in the earlier legislation passed by the UPA government in 2013.

    The government had promulgated the ordinance making significant changes in the Land Act including removal of consent clause for acquiring land for five categories –Industrial Corridors, Public Private Partnership projects, Rural Infrastructure, Affordable Housing and Defence.

    Meanwhile, the Upper House will take up two bills to replace two ordinances, the Mines and Minerals Development & Regulation Amendment Bill, 2015 and Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, 2015, both passed by Lok Sabha last week.

    The other two pending Bills relate to hiking FDI limit in insurance sector and allocation of coal blocks through open bidding.
