  • Durga Puja festivities ended in Assam’s Darrang district with Vijaya Dashami celebration

    Mangaldai  : The four day long Durga Puja celebration has ended in Darrang district with the immersion of the idol of  Goddess Durga and its consorts on the day of Vijaya Dashami on Tuesday. Meanwhile in the afternoon the puja celebration committees took out  processions along with the idols from the puja venues to the immersion river banks amidst shouting of slogans and celebration of the victory of Goddess Durga over the evils. Adequate arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of the immersion process of the idols of  nearly two hundred community puja committees in different rivers of the district. Immersion river pints in four different river bank places at Garubandha , Rajghat , Mowamari besides the main Mangaldai Raashkhola have been identified by the authority for immersion of idols of seventy one numbers of community pujas under Mangaldai Sadar Police Station as stated by Inspector Niranjan Baruah , Officer in Charge of the police. “ This time immersion will take place in four different places keeping in mind the increased in numbers of puja committees. We have tried to take adequate security arrangements with the help of the paramilitary forces and the SDRF so that the occasion passed off peacefully.” Inspector Baruah asserted before this correspondent  just ahead of the immersion process begins.

     

    Meanwhile the puja mandaps have recorded the highest turnout of visitors on the evening of Mahanavami celebration on Monday. Like the previous years this time also different puja committees have been seen adopting efforts to draw public attention to various socially important issues like the adverse effect of climate change and use of plastics in Udayan Sangha’s Sarvajanin Puja Celebration at Santipara Ward No-1 , Mangaldai while the replica of the cleanest and open defacation free  village preparated by young prominent sculptor Ajit Bania was the centre of attraction in the puja mandap of  Maa Laxmi Society at Ward No-3 Mangaldai On the other hand in Kharupetia town , the business hub of the district the puja organized by Barowari Puja Committee and Tiger Club along the NH 15 were amongst the maximum crowd pullers for their attractive decorations and lightings . Unlike these colorful Durga Puja celebrations in the district, Durga Puja of the Royal Koch dynasty was observed in three Howlies of Mangaldai with four hundred years old  traditions and customs away from any kind of artificial colours.
