  • First Polling party leaves Haflong

    Haflong :At least 90 polling parties left Haflong for respective polling stations. There are 280 polling stations against 28 constituencies of N C Hills Autonomous Council. The date for the election to the 12th N C Hills Autonomous Council scheduled to be held on January 19, 2018.

    The Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Amitabha Rajkhowa who is also the Returning Officer talking to this correspondent said an elaborate has been made to conduct the election free and fare and for this cooperation from all section of the people is very much required. He today as many as 90 polling parties left Haflong for far flung destinations and another 190 polling parties will be sent tomorrow. A polling party is comprised of 4 officials and 2 security persons thus a total of 1120 officials and 560 security personals would be engaged for the election.

    Meanwhile a number of polling officials expressed concern over the unsystematic arrangements for the lack of co-ordinations. Some others are of the opinion that the election is national duty they have to do with sincerity.

    However, the polling officials expressed happiness since the situation in Dima Hasao is very peaceful now unlike previous years and hoped that the election process would be very peaceful throughout the district.
