GUWAHATI :Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Meghalaya and Tripura in the northeast. The Prime Minister has unveiled projects worth over Rs 6,800 crore in these two states. Shillong: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Meghalaya’s Shillong today to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council. “When football fever is gripping all of us, why not talk in football terminology? When a player goes against the spirit, he is shown a red card and sent out. During his address, PM Modi targeted the opposition and said that the Ganga of development will flow in the border villages, development is now taking place in the border villages.

The previous government did not do any development. Similarly, in the last 8 years, we have shown the red card to many obstacles in the development of the Northeast. “We are watching today’s game in Qatar and seeing foreign teams on the field. But I have faith in the youth of the country. So, I can say with confidence that the day is not far when we will celebrate a similar festival in India and chant the tricolour. “We are making sincere efforts to remove corruption, favouritism, nepotism, violence, stalling of projects and vote bank politics. But you know that the roots of these diseases are quite deep. So, we all have to root it out together. Prime Minister Modi said that the Central Government is moving forward with a new approach today regarding sports. This has benefited the North East, the youth of the North East. The country’s first sports university is in the North East. “There was development even before 2014, but what has changed now? Pm Modi said that the change that has taken place in our patience, priorities and work culture has also brought a change in the results. The ultimate goal is to provide seamless connectivity and inclusive growth for all sectors. He said the new infrastructure in the state would bring more opportunities for the youth.

The inauguration of IIMs and technology parks will help in enhancing education as well as livelihood for the youth of the state. Prime Minister Modi said that when we changed the priorities of the central government, its positive impact is visible all over the country. This year, the Centre is spending Rs 7 lakh crore on infrastructure alone. Eight years ago, it was less than Rs 2 lakh crore. After 7 decades of independence, we had reached only Rs 2 lakh crore. Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated various development projects during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the North Eastern Council in Shillong. Apart from PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of northeastern states and other leaders were present at the event.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that if you compare the Northeast that existed 8 years ago and the Northeast that exists today, you will find that the Northeast is moving on the path of peace and development after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister for the first time. He said that we have concluded the meeting of the North Eastern Council under the chairmanship of PM Modi. The PM has not only appreciated the work of NEC but has also prepared a road map for the development of the area. Amit Shah said that earlier, the budget was allocated for the Northeast, but it was not implemented. The budget has reached the villages today with many changes after PM Modi came to power and it can be seen turning into real work. It is a big achievement.
