Government enhanced the election expenditure of candidates .

A Law Ministry notification said the “maximum limit” of election expenses now stood at 40 lakh rupees for parliamentary constituencies and 16 lakh rupees for assembly constituencies.

So far, the maximum limit for parliamentary constituencies was 25 lakh rupees and 10 lakh for assembly seats.

The notification, issued in consultation with the Election Commission, will further amend the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.
