  • India, Cyprus suffer from scourge of terrorism: President

    India has stressed on the need to strengthen the global counter-terrorism legal framework. In his speech at the banquet hosted in Cyprushonour of President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades in New Delhi yesterday, President Pranab Mukherjee said, both India and Cyprus suffer from the scourge of terrorism.

    He said, this global menace needs to be fought by all civilized societies and countries. He said, India seeks to build a broad consensus at the United Nations for finalization and early adoption of the draft Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.

    Mr Mukherjee said, in recent years, India has seen rapid economic progress, despite the global slowdown and achieved a steady growth rate of about 7 per cent. He also urged the Cyprus to take advantage of India’s flagship programmes like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ and join India’s growth story.

    Mr Mukherjee also said, India’s information technology sector, renewable energy, natural gas and hydrocarbons, sustainable tourism, infrastructure and health and wellness sectors are open for partnerships and foreign investment.
