Kokrajhar: With the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced the nationwide launch of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) was held centrally in a function in New Delhi today, the Kokrajhar branch of IPPB has also organized a launched programme at Kokrajhar Commerce College Auditorium today.

Principal of Kokrajhar Commerce College Ratnewar Debnath attended the function as chief guest and lighted the inaugural lamp in presence of Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh, Dr Rupam Brahma, principal of Kokrajhar Girls’ college and Ratul Sarmah, Superintendent of Posts, Goalpara, Dhubri and Kokrajhar Division among others.

The post office’s IPPB will provide customers savings and current accounts, along with services including bills and utility payments, remittance and money transfer, direct benefit transfers and enterprise and merchant payments. It will incorporate net banking and mobile banking facilities as well.

IPPB will focus on providing banking and financial services to people in rural areas, by linking all the 1.55 lakh post office branches (that’s nearly 2.5 times the bank network) with India Post Payments Bank services by the end of 2018. More than 3,00,000 postmen both in rural and urban areas will provide doorstep banking services.

This will create the country’s largest banking network with a direct presence at the village level. IPPB has been allowed to link around 17 crore postal savings bank accounts with its accounts.
