  • Protest against the attack on freedom of press held at Haflong

    Haflong: At the call of Indian Journalists Union, the Dima Hasao Journalists Union and Journalists Union of Assam organised a Protest against the attack on freedom of press held in front the office of the Deputy Commissioner Dima Hasao on Saturday at Haflong.

    Attending the Dharna, several journalists including the President of Haflong Press club expressed their concern over the increasing attack and intimidation on journalists not only in the country in the district of Dima Hasao also. They said now a day’s journalists are the softest targets for the politicians, mafias and even the government machineries.  There has been rapid increase of attempts to curb the freedom of press everywhere which was not at all good for the Nation, state or even the district. They also requested the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to ensure safety and security of the journalists.

    Later memoranda were submitted to the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao with request to look into the concerns of the working journalists in the country and take urgent steps to protect the freedom of the press and independent journalism, essential for survival of democracy in the country.
