  • Journalists feted on the occasion of National Press Day in Assam’s Darrang district

    Mangaldai: Darrang district administration in collaboration with District Information and Public Relation Office and Darrang District Committee of Assam Press Correspondents Union (APCU) organized a function to observe the countrywide celebration of National Press Day. In this connection a seminar was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner  where appointed speaker and  Associate Professor of Assamese department of Sipajhar College Dr. Prasanna Kumar Nath delivered the key note speech on this year’s theme , “Ethics in Journalism: its challenges in Digital Era”. In his deliver he highlighted several relevant issues  beginning from the publication of the  first news paper of India “The Bengal Gazette’  till the present digital era of social media . Several other speakers including  District Development Commissioner Sweety Gogoi Kalita and Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty  while greeting the media people urged upon them to work for the society just like a honey bee who  collects sweet honey from the core of the flowers  and at the same time it can pinch hard whenever situation demands .

     

    Earlier inaugurating the seminar Darrang Deputy Commissioner AshokKumar Barman spoke on the significant role of the press in building a society with positive thought and creative writing. “ A society  or a nation will become  healthy and prosper in real sense  only when  their journalism  is strong and positive .” , he said . The seminar followed by a felicitation ceremony where two senior journalists of the district namely Atowar Rahman of Kharupetia and Gagan Ch Nath of Sipajhar have been feted each with  traditional bihuwan and a letter of citation . In the beginning  District Information and Public Relation Officer , Darrang Mani Mala Gogoi explained the significance of the National Press Day .
