  • Major crackdown on Bengal violence, NCPCR summons report on children fleeing to Assam

    Guwahati : The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has directed the authorities of Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts of Assam to visit camps where it is reported that children who fled after the violence after the election results in West Bengal are staying. The Commission has asked the authorities to submit detailed reports of the number of children and the harassment reported by them so that further action can be taken.

    The apex body of child rights has directed the district magistrates to record the statements of these children and lodge zero FIRs in the cases where harassment has taken place. The Commission has taken cognizance of media reports and information furnished by some persons. At the same time, the identity of the informants has been kept confidential.It is alleged that several individuals or political party workers allegedly committed violence and harassed several children and their families.

    Tell me, there was a lot of violence in Bengal after the election results. It was reported that several people along with children had gone to Assam fearing an attack. He was said to be associated with the BJP. TMC workers accused of spreading violence here. The TMC had won the election with the BJP second. Several BJP offices were then targeted. Many people lost their lives in the violence. The impact was also visible on the day of the swearing-in ceremony when the Governor mentioned it before CM Mamata Banerjee.
