For promoting safety at work places, National Safety Day will be observed across the country today. The day is celebrated every year on the fourth of March. This year the theme is “Establish and maintain Preventive Safety and Health Culture”. A week long safety campaign will also kickstart today. Various functions, seminars and programmes are being organised by industries, regulatory agencies, trade unions and other professional institutions to highlight safety and health issues affecting both employees and general public. Cultural events and poster designing and slogan writing competitions will also be held to encourage involvement of all stakeholders. Our Correspondent adds that better safety will greatly benefit the 400 million strong workforce of the country of which more than 90 percent is employed in the unorganised sector.
