The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu police over the death of a person allegedly in its custody.

The Commission has taken suo moto cognizance of media reports about the incident that happened in Cuddalore district on Thursday.

The police said, the deceased was detained for an inquiry over an ATM theft case and had committed suicide in the police station premises.

The Commission asked the Director General of Police to submit a detailed report within six weeks. It observed that apparently due to the negligence of the police personnel, the accused, who was in their custody, has lost his life.
