  • No hotel, IT firm in Chennai shut down due to drinking water scarcity: TN Minister

    Tamil Nadu local administration Minister SP Velumani has said no hotel or IT firm in Chennai has been shut down due to drinking water scarcity.

    He reviewed the situation in Chennai this morning with heads of water management bodies and district level officials dealing with drinking water. Later, talking to reporters, he said 525 million litres per day, MLD of water is being distributed every day in Chennai.

    He added, the Centre has sanctioned the financial grant for establishing a new desalination plant with the capacity of 150 mld of water. He said, foundation stone for the project will be laid very soon for the project.

    Earlier, in the review meeting, Mr Velumani directed the officials to develop mobile phone Apps for the public to lodge their complaints over water scarcity and to do the follow up works. The minister asked the officials to team up among themselves and visit the field every day to take remedial measures.
