  • NRC is likely to be published before July 10: Security Meet Ahead of Publication of NRC

    Gwahati: The first draft NRC was published on December 31, 2017, which had names of 1.9 crore of 3.29 crore applicants. Once the second NRC draft is published, people whose names do not figure in the list will get a period of one month to submit claims and objections, following which the final NRC will be published. As per reports, Hajela will move to Supreme Court Registry seeking extension based on the court’s order on May 8 that “a limited extension is possible.The operational group of the Unified Command met on Wednesday in Guwahati to discuss the security situation in Assam in the run-up to publication of the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC). The meeting, held at the Narengi army cantonment, was chaired by Lt Gen. A.S. Bedi, General Officer Commanding, 4 Corps, and attended by director-general of police Mukesh Sahay and senior police, state government, BSF, CRPF and SSB officials. The meeting reviewed the measures to be taken to prevent any untoward incident arising out of the NRC update process. The Supreme Court has set a December 31 deadline for publication of the draft NRC.But The second and final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is likely to be published before July 10. Reportedly, the draft of the updated NRC will not be published on June 30 and the next date will be finalized only after a Supreme Court hearing on July 2.
