  • NTPC Bongaigaon declares COD of UNIT #III

    Kokrajhar : The Commercial Operation Date (COD) of UNIT #III of the 750(250X3) MW NTPC Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project situated at Salakati in Kokrajhar district is declared today. With these all the three Units of the Plant are now fully operational.

    The Bongaigaon plant of NTPC is the flagship project in North-East with a total capacity of 750 MW.

    Chief General Manager Chandan Chakraborty stated that it was the result of team work and Can do Spirit of NTPC that can be attributed for the success. The power generated from the plant will cater to the North-eastern states of India with Assam being the major beneficiary state.

    With this, the commercial capacity of Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project, NTPC and NTPC group would become 750 MW, 45065 MW and 52206 MW respectively.

    It is to be mentioned that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in January 2006, had laid the foundation stone of the Rs 4,720-crore project on the premises of the defunct thermal power station of the Assam State Electricity Board situated at Salkatai in Kokrajhar.

     

    The 1st Unit was synchronised on June 21 (2015) and commercial of declaration(COD) was done on April 1(2016).The 2nd Unit was made synchronised on February 13(2017) and commercial of declaration on November 1(2017) respectively.

     

    Coal from Makum coalmines in Margherita of Assam and eastern coalfields spread over West Bengal and Jharkhand are being used in the project.

    Bose also highlighted on various  work under taken by the NTPC Bongaigaon as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities including construction of bridges, connected roads, medical treatment for the local people etc.
