  • Odisha govt orders SIT probe into killing of 5 tribals in Kandhmal gunfight

    odishaOdisha; The Odisha government has ordered to form a Special Investigation Team to probe into the killing of five tribals allegedly during an exchange of fire between security personnel and Maoists in the Kandhamal district of the State on Friday night.
    Talking to media persons at Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said to ensure a thorough and impartial probe into the incident, he has directed that an investigation of the case by a Special Investigation Team of the State Human Rights Protection Cell to be monitored and supervised by an officer of the rank of Additional Director General.

    Earlier, the state government had ordered a judicial probe into the incident.

    Yesterday, the Odisha Human Rights Commission served notice on the state Home Secretary, DGP and others directing them to submit a detailed probe report on the incident.
    Commission for Scheduled Tribe Chairman Rameswar Oraon will visit Kandhamal to probe the incident today.
