A day after the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh reviewed the price situation with senior Cabinet colleagues and other officials, informal consultations were held on Wednesday to discuss ways to tackle the rising food inflation.

The Agriculture Minister Mr Sharad Pawar and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia today met the Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee in this regard.

Dr Singh had convened a high level meeting on Tuesday as food inflation crossed the 18 per cent mark with the prices of vegetables , specially onions , eggs , meat registering a sharp increase.

According to sources centre is likely to come out with a strategy very soon to tame food inflation and decisions in this regard are expected to be taken at the Cabinet meeting this week.
