  • PMO officials contribute day’s salary for flood-hit J&K

    All officers and staff of the Prime Minister’s Office have voluntarily contributed their one day’s salary to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the flood-affected people of Image:Jammu and Kashmir.

    The gesture is to express their solidarity with the flood -affected people of J-K, a PMO statement said.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday directed officials to provide total support to the state government to enable it step-up rescue and relief operations and had stressed on the need to quickly reach essential commodities to those affected.

    Chairing a high-level emergency meeting to review relief operations in the state yesterday, Modi had emphasised that immediate attention be given to providing basic necessities like food and water to people severely hit by the calamity.

    Around 200 people have lost their lives in the floods in J-K while as many as 82,000 people from the affected areas have been evacuated by the armed forces

    Kashmir floods: SSB jawans, officers pledge one day’s salary

    Voicing solidarity with the victims of the Jammu and Kashmir floods, jawans and officers of border guarding force SSB have decided to contribute their one day’s salary in the Prime Ministers National Relief Fund.

    “We have decided to pledge our one day’s salary for the victims. The amount comes to about Rs 2 crore. These funds will be deposited in the PM’s National Relief Fund soon,” Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) chief B D Sharma told the news agency.

    The Director General also said a small team of his force, deployed in the state for internal security-related duties, has begun relief and rescue works amongst the locals.

    The force, which is tasked to guard Nepal and Bhutan borders, is also holding medical camps at Haiderpora Chowk and Tengpora Bridge in Srinagar.

    Meanwhile, other paramilitary units present in Kashmir like Border Security Force and CRPF have also begun rendering relief works and providing succour to the victims of one of the worst floods in the history of the state.

    The personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have, till now, evacuated over 31,000 people.

    It is airlifting 1,000 tents which will be distributed in Srinagar and areas adjoining it.
