Jorhat ; In a pathetic road accident a school headmaster was knocked down by a speedy school van bearing registration number AS-03 M-6497 which was travelling after dropping the students and was on way for the second trip who was in a high uncontrollable speed which hit the headmaster travelling in his personnel scooty bearing registration number As-03 T-7901 near Na-Ali Habichck SBI ATM at around 730 a.m. leaving him dead on the spot, said police here today.

The victim was identified one Bharat Baruah (50) a headmaster of Robigaon High School, Bamunpukhuri, Jhanji. He was a resident of Habichuk Kamalaboria and was way to Borhulla to submit some documents for Provincializing school in which he was working. He leaves behind his wife who is also a teacher, a son and a daughter

While the van was returning after dropping students at Army School and was on way for the second trip. The victim was separated from the scooty while the scooty engine and the body made into two parts after the hit. The drive of the van fled but few locals managed to catch him and handed him over to police. The driver of the van identified to be one Pranjal Kalita (30).

Moreover over 100s of residents from the adjacent areas blocked the Na-Ali road and demanded speed breakers at various accident prone points within the 12 km Na-Ali road between Titabor Tin-Ali to Jorhat town as for the apathetic attitude of PWD (Roads) authority and administration. The road accident and death toll on the busy Na-Ali road rose upto 32 in past six months.

A delegation of common people of the area will meet the local MLA cum Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami when he will be back after the Assembly in recent days and following the people will also meet the Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar and Executive Engineer (NEC-roads) Sanjib Lahon for speeding up of the speed breakers at various accident prone area between the 12 km area of Na-Ali between Titabor Tin-Ali to Jorhat town.
