Government has taken several measures during the last one year of the second term of Narendra Modi’s government.

In this period, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has initiated several steps to provide free food grains to the poor, upgradation of ration card system and passing the Consumer Protection Bill, 2019.

Our Correspondent reports that the Government has assured that sufficient quantity of food grains is available to fulfill the nation’s increased demand during the COVID-19 crisis.

More than 751 lakh metric tonnes food grain stock is available in the country. Since, the lockdown, more than 213 lakh metric tonnes of food grains has been transported to States and Union Territories for distribution under Atma Nirbhar Bharat scheme through rails, roads and waterways.

In the North-Eastern States, more than 10 lakh metric tonnes food grains have been transported. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, free food grains and pulses are being provided to 80 crore people who are facing hardship due to Coronavirus pandemic.

National portability of ration cards holders has been introduced under One Nation One Ration Card plan and Government is aiming to achieve hundred per cent seeding of ration cards with Aadhar by January, next year.

Government has also allowed production of ethanol from sugar and sugar syrup in order to meet the increased demand for ethyl alcohol to produce the sanitizers to effectively deal with the Coronavirus. 165 distilleries and 962 independent manufacturers were given licenses to produce hand-sanitizers across the country, which has produced more than 87 lakh liters of hand-sanitizers.
