  • Sonowal launches seven ferry services for Majuli

    JORHAT : Seven ferry services launched at a Majuli ghat (i.e. river shore) on the eve of 74th Independence day celebration which is a part of gift to the people of Majuli after his commitment during Assembly Poll hours by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is also the local MLA did this unique inauguration program which was not possible since the day of Independence which out of seven one is a 28 metre long steel catamaran built at the cost of Rs 2 crore which will carry more than 200 passengers apart from four vehicles and 50 bikes at a time, said Sonowal during the inaugural program at Kamalabari ghat here today.

    The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said from the month of October Ro-Ro ferry services will be introduced which will carry loaded trucks and buses and other heavy vehicles along between Neematighat to Majuli which will added more mileage for the development of the Island District while DPR report which was given responsibility to a South Korean Company and by November the DPR report for the visibility for construction of the bridge between Neematighat to Majuli .

    The chief minister further said that more such  vassals will be placed in Majuli in the days to come along with Ro-Ro vassals that to function between Neematighat and Afalamukh   and for the first time a new ferry service between Ahotoguree (south Majuli) and Missamora which will help the people from southern part of river island which is scattered islands between island.

    During the inaugural ceremony Transport minister Chandra Mohan Patwary, MLA Bimal Bora among senior officials from the Inland Water Transport and Inland Waterways Authority of India among Sattradhikars were present.
