  • SYL issue: INLD leaders, workers courted arrest

    New Delhi: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala, Haryana President of INLD Ashok Arora and 92 party workers courted arrest at the Haryana-Punjab border for violating Section 144 in the Code Of Criminal Procedure.

     

    Abhay Chautala led thousands of party workers assembled at the new vegetable market, Ambala, Haryana and began marching towards Punjab’s border yesterday for digging Sutlej Yamuna link Canal.

     

    Punjab Police personnel, 10 companies of paramilitary, riot police and a mounted battalion deployed along the Shambu border did not allow them to enter Punjab and warned them of consequences.

     

    Punjab police first issued a warning to the INLD supporters to vacate the area and then started arresting them. The arrested leaders have been sent to Judicial Custody till 27th of this month in Patiala Jail.
