    Mangaldai : Darrang  Deputy Commissioner and the District Election Officer(DEO) of election district of Darrang, Dilip Kumar Borah following following the directives of the Election Commission of India  on Saturday  afternoon addressed media in a hurriedly organized press meet at his office conference hall here to make the public aware of the preparations made by the administration for smooth conduct of the upcoming Assembly polls in four assembly constituencies under the election district jurisdiction, apart from the steps for strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), including defacement and removal of government posters from government premises.

    DEO, Borah stated that the administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a “free, fair and safe election” in the district. Stressing upon the “safety” aspect of the polls, the District Magistrate said elections will be conducted keeping in mind all the Covid 19 safety precautions, including supply of adequate quantities of face masks and sanitizers for the polling officials as well as the voters.  The Deputy Commissioner said that as per the latest updated data , there are 8,34,337 voters in the district, which is likely to increase with the process of update of electoral rolls is still in progress.  Regarding the increase in the no of polling stations in view of the Covid 19 protocols DEO Borah said , “There will be a total of 1201 polling stations across the district, an increase of 136 than the earlier figure of 1065.

    Moreover, each polling station will be limited to maximum of 1000 voters under any circumstances, keeping the corona virus epidemic in mind.”  He further stated that the district administration has taken special measures such as provision of ramp in polling stations, option of “voting from home” for the PWDs, octogenarian electors.
