Haflong : Demanding Immediate Withdrawal of the Constitution Schedule Tribe Mangaldai November 23 :  Nation wide campaign against the threats of plastics especially the single use plastics has been going on where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is playing pivotal role. Recently befitting the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations there has been series of programmes, including public awareness, collective efforts in gathering of these litters followed by its disposal. But the scenario of the post Raas festival here has made the nature loving conscious circle feel that these campaigns have little impact on the common people. The eleven day long Raas festival held at the Bishnu temple campus used to several thousands of people everyday. Besides more than one hundred stalls with attractive earthen statues of different characters relating to the life and philosophy of Sri Krishna there were a large no of commercial shops, hotels, restaurants, Mina Bazar etc were set up to woo the visitors in and around the festival venue . The organisers, the police, the Municipal staff and the police from other concerned govt undertakings made all out efforts in maintaining swachata in this mega festival. There were announcements from the organisers for a plastic free festival. However much to the frustration of the sincere members of the organising committees following the end of the festival on Thursday night saw a different polluted picture on the next days surrounding festival venues. There were heaps of single use plastics and other litters especially in front of the Southern entrance and also along the nearby  Mangaldai river where as rag pullers remaining busy in collecting the huge quantity of plastic bottles. It may be mentioned here that each year the Mangaldai river used to feel the brunt of such alarming situation about which a section of environmental conscious people few years back had moved the organisers reportedly with relevant supporting video footage drawing good response from the organisers at that time.
