  • Cancer screening free medical camp and awareness in Assam’s Darrang District

    Mangaldai:  With a view to check the growing cases of cancer in Darrang district, particularly in the Sipajhar area, the AMC Alumni Association and Academic Forum, Guwahati has extended their voluntary helping hand. As part of this noble initiative the medical practitioners body in collaboration with three non government bodies of the district namely Dashami Devi Foundation, Mangaldai Media Circle and Crystal Vision on Sunday organised a free Cancer screening medical camp and awareness meeting against the use of tobacco at village Balipara under Sipajhar revenue circle of the district. Cervical Cancer  screening papsmear test and other tests for detection of uterus and breast cancer were carried out for middle aged women patients by a team of doctors and paramedical staff from Dr Anjana Phookan Memorial Foundation under the supervision of Senior Gynecologist Dr Chandan Baruah. Besides these cancer screening tests another team  of ten expert medical professionals including Dr Sangeet Dutta, Dr Lutfur Rahman, Dr Navajyoti Dutta, Dr N. K. Beria, Dr Budhin Saikia, Dr Dipsikha Kakati, Dr Dhiren Saharia, Dr Sujit Mandal, Dr Pratyusman Hazarika and Dr Violina Kashyap offered free treatment to more than one hundred patients mostly women, children and senior citizens. Blood sugar  and cataract screening test were also conducted while free medicines were provided to the attending patients. As a means of protecting oral cancer an awareness meeting on the evil effects of tobacco use was followed. Earlier the day long camp was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass.
