  • Nation celebrates Teacher’s Day today

    Teachers’ Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. Various programmmes in schools and colleges throughout the country are being organised in the honour of teachers who shape the lives of students and show them the path of success. The day is Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnancelebrated on the birthday of educationist and former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan since 1962.

    President and Prime Minister have greeted the teachers on the day.

    In his message, Pranab Mukherjee said, teachers’ day is an occasion to recognise the dedicated services of the teachers, who are engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of the children. He said, a sound education system is the bedrock of an enlightened society and inspired teachers are the building blocks of a good education system. President said, the teachers also need to imbibe technology and new methodologies to create modern and effective approaches to teaching and learning.

    In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the country salutes the dedication and commitment of all teachers, whose role in nation building is paramount. Mr Modi paid tributes to Dr. Radhakrishnan and said, he was a scholar, statesman and a respected teacher who shaped many minds and served the country.

    Our correspondent reports that paying tributes to Dr. Radhakrishnan , on Teachers Day, for the second year in a row, President Pranab Mukherjee will take a class and interact with students of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya located at President’s Estate. Around 80 students of classes 11th and 12th will attend the class. The President will take an hour class on the Evolution of Indian Politics.

    The President will also address teachers of various schools of Delhi. The entire event will be telecast live on DD (News) and DD Bharati Channels of Doordarshan from 10:30 AM onwards.

    It will also be webcast live on the President of India website and live-streamed on the YouTube channel of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Mr Mukherjee will also present the National Award to Teachers -2015.
