  • Rain, floods hit normal life in various states; HM Rajnath Singh in Assam to take stock of flood situation

    Continuous rain and floods has hit normal life in various states.

    rainUnion Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reached Guwahati to take stock of the situation as 19 lakh people are reeling under flood in 22 districts of Assam. Official sources said that the Minister will conduct an aerial survey of Nagaon, Morigaon and Kaziranga.

    AIR Correspondent reports that he will also be visiting Bhagatgaon camp in Morigaon district. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Chief Secretary will also accompany him.

    In the state, Nearly five lakh displaced people have taken shelter at relief camps. Overall flood situation slightly improved today except Dhubri and South Salmara.

    CEO of state disaster management authority Dipak Sarma said that most of the rivers are showing a receding trend.Mr. Sarma however said that the Brahmaputra is flowing above normal in Guwahati.

    In Tamil Nadu, flood alert has been issued in low lying areas near south Pennai river in five districts including Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri. Heavy rain has affected normal life in Salem and Krishnagiri districts of the state.

    In Bihar, there is no improvement in the flood situation. 26 people have, so far, died in flood related incidents in the state. Maximum casualities have been reported from Supaul, Purnia and Kishanganj.

    Over 10,000 houses have collapsed. AIR correspondent reports that over 20 lakh people, spread over 10 districts, are reeling under the impact of floods.

    In Uttar Pradesh, all major rivers of Terai region continue to flow either above or near the danger mark due to continuous rain in upper Himalayan reaches and excess water release from barrages.

    A total of 52 Tehsils of 20 districts and over 800 villages with over two lakhs persons are flood affected. Most among them include Siddharthanagar, Pilibhit, Barabanki, Basti, Kushinagar and Badaun.
