  • Senior BJP leaders urge L.K. Advani to withdraw resignation

    L.K. AdvaniBJP leader, L.K. Advani has resigned from all party posts. He has reportedly resigned in protest against elevation of Narendra Modi as Campaign Committee Chief.

    This has plunged the main opposition party into a crisis.

    Advani resigned from Parliamentary Board, National Executive and Election Committee after Modi was appointed BJP’s Campaign Chief for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections at the national executive meet at Goa on Sunday.

    In his resignation letter to the Party President, Rajnath Singh, Advani rued that the BJP was no longer the idealistic party created by Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Nanaji Deshmukh and Atal Behari Vajpayee.

    Immediately after his resignation, BJP President Rajnath Singh rushed to Advani’s residence and is understood to have urged him to take back his resignation.

    The newly appointed Campaign Committee Chief, Narendra Modi has called on Advani over phone and appealed to him to withdraw the resignation.

    The party top brass met in New Delhi Monday evening to take stock of political situation in the wake of Advani’s resignation.

    Expressing confidence, Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said that Advani will agree to withdraw resignation.

    Party President earlier held discussions with senior leader, Arun Jaitley and others on the issue.

    Reacting to Advani’s resignation, Janata Dal (United) President, Sharad Yadav, an ally of NDA said that the party will discuss the matter.

    He described his resignation a serious issue and said that he is deeply saddened by his decision.

    Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Chief Jayalalitha described the issue as the party’s internal matter though she added that Modi his her personal friend.

    The Shiv Sena has also said that Advani’s contribution in building the BJP has been monumental.

    Congress has said that Advani’s resignation from party’s various posts is one of the many repercussions of Modi’s elevation as party Campaign Committee Chief for the 2014 General Elections.

    Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Monday, Party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said that Modi’s appointment is the beginning of degeneration of BJP.
